There's a myth in Brazil that varies depending on it's source, but it repeats along various native tribes, from the amazon rainforest to the south. Boi (snake)+ tatá (fire) is a spirit or wraith that appears suddenly to protect the forest, usually against fires started by man. Some say it is actually the spirit of a giant snake that liked to eat the eyes of it's victims. In some stories, it is depicted as a bull with one flaming eye. It's said that the only way to survive an encounter is to stop breathing, closing your eyes and standing still, because anyone who lays their eyes on it die.
